Traditional fixed braces- Metal and Clear
Traditional fixed braces remain a reliable and effective option for children and teenagers. At Synergy Orthodontics we offer traditional metal braces and ceramic clear braces both fixed to teeth. Modern brace systems are now smaller, smoother and more comfortable than in the past. Metal wires run through the brackets, gradually moving teeth into position. This system in combination with our remote monitoring system means that we see you only when we need to see you.
At Synergy Orthodontics, each treatment plan is tailored to your child’s individual needs and stage of growth.
Metal braces can correct a wide range of orthodontic issues, including complex and severe misalignment.
Made from strong materials, metal braces are long-lasting and suitable for continuous treatment.
Synergy Orthodontics uses a specialised bracket design that allows teeth to move more freely and comfortably during treatment. When this is combined with remote monitoring system.
Benefits may include:
Depending on your orthodontic care requirements, you may choose to have fixed braces over aligners. As a Specialist Orthodontist we always give options and make a clear recommendation on what may work best. It is upto you as a patient/ parent to choose what method of treatment you would like. The most important thing is that the child is on board for treatment and compliant with the method of treatment we use- either braces or aligners. If choosing braces they need to be careful with their diet and be meticulous with cleaning since they are fixed to teeth to avoid breakages and to keep teeth clean.
Even if you want fixed braces we still recommend an initial assessment at 7 years old to provide an opportunity to monitor growth, detect issues and intervene if necessary.
With comprehensive fixed braces generally the earliest we will start is around 11 just before or after the child has lost their last back baby teeth. Starting treatment before the back baby teeth were lost is often beneficial in crowded cases as these baby teeth are wider than permanent erupting teeth meaning that we can use these for space if necessary (this is called leeway space). If you wait for all the adult teeth to erupt then the back molar teeth drift forwards and that space potential is lost. In some cases it can make the difference between needing extractions and not needing them. This is why timing is so important. Also in general we find younger children adapt to treatment much easier than teenagers.
The Gift of a Lasting Smile is about starting orthodontic care at the right time, which can make a real difference to your child’s confidence, comfort and long-term dental health. At Synergy Orthodontics, we take time to explain all options clearly and work closely with families to plan treatment that suits both clinical needs and practical considerations.
